Welcome!
I’m glad you stopped by my site today.
What my clients have in common…
My clients fall into one of two categories:
I have a passion for helping college students and recent graduates develop their first professional resume and establish effective job search tools and strategies.
I also work with senior professionals or rising executives who are preparing for a job search and recognize the value of partnering with a career expert to maximize productivity and optimize results. No matter who they are, my clients are:
- Preparing to look for a new position and want assistance putting their best foot forward.
- Limited on time and recognize the value in streamlining their job search efforts and maximizing their knowledge of today’s job market.
- Prioritizing the need to create a compelling, branded resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile.
- Thoughtful and realistic – about their career, job target, and accomplishments.
- Appreciative of the value of networking and tapping into the hidden job market.
- Interested in developing a professional, competitive advantage in today’s complex world of employment.
How I can help you…
I’ll help define your value to a potential employer. I excel at writing concisely, summarizing the high points of your career, and refining why you’re good at what you do.
The process of answering my Resume Development Questions and customized follow-up questions will serve double duty as the beginning of your interview preparation efforts.
Coaching can be customized to your needs, including developing strategies to tap the hidden job market, fine-tuning answers to commonly asked interview questions, and drafting compelling follow up letters.
I recognize that resume writing and job search techniques are not areas in which everyone stays current, but when the time comes—as it inevitably will—to begin a job search, I’m here as a valuable resource.
A little bit more about me…
I’ve been writing career documents for more than 20 years. My love of all things career-related dates back to my college days, working part-time at Georgetown’s Career Center. After graduation, I participated in on-campus recruitment and on-site interviewing events as an investment banking analyst and covered the human capital management sector (including online job boards and retained search firms) in equity research before joining a national executive search firm. Three years later, I branched out on my own to establish Sterling Career Concepts, LLC. Ever since, I’ve worked one-on-one with clients.
Along the way, I’ve been nominated for an industry award, published in numerous books, and quoted in many career articles. I’ve earned certifications that demonstrate a commitment to my craft. I’m proud of all four of my certifications, but two in particular are worth pointing out. I am a Certified Master Resume Writer (CMRW), an elite designation held by less than 50 career professionals worldwide, and the first professional to be awarded the Certified Resume Strategist designation for New Graduates. Both of these were awarded by Career Directors International. See my full bio here.
Outside of work, I’m a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and have trained Muay Thai as well. Martial arts has taught me to have confidence in myself, remain calm in moments of stress, and think strategically. I incorporate all three of these lessons into my work with clients as they apply to career management and job search strategy.
I’ve also learned that discipline, patience, and motivation are key components to both training in a martial art and conducting a shorter, more successful job search. These two worlds merge more often than you might think!
I love what I do…
…and I’d love the opportunity to partner with you!
– Laurie
